ALM Reports
Role: Lead UX Designer, 2014
Article-Level Metrics (ALM) Reports allows anyone to create and save a list of PLOS articles and view granular information, summaries, and data visualizations for that list. This is particularly useful for research funders and authors who want to measure the impact of their work within a specific area of study.
User Flows & Sketches
Much of the ALM Reports user experience was designed with marker and paper. This allowed me to iterate quickly and helped facilitate a collaborative design process with the product manager and other stakeholders.
Search for Articles
The homepage of the application is a search interface. The user can enter parameters and search across the entire PLOS corpus of over 200,000 articles published across seven journals and various collections.
Select Articles
The user can select articles from their search results and add them to their list. Alternatively they can add articles directly via a digital object identifier (DOI), PubMed ID (PMID), or can add them in bulk by uploading an article list CSV file.
Preview List
Once the user has created their list they can review and modify their selections before generating a report.
View Report & Data Visualizations
The report consists of detailed ALM data for each article in the user’s list. These data can be shared and downloaded as CSV files.
The application also generates a number of different visualization of their list’s ALM data that the user can download to print or include in presentations.
